The Wehubit Data Governance for Africa Initiative is dedicated to supporting projects that leverage digital technologies to address developmental challenges through human-centric data economies in Africa. The initiative focuses on key areas such as regulation, cross-border data flows, and sustainable digital infrastructure. Projects seeking funding must have progressed beyond the early stages of ideation, prototyping, and testing, demonstrating at least one successful implemented case study.
Applicants are encouraged to propose digital social innovations implemented by public and non-profit private actors, including NGOs, foundations, associations, and non-profit social enterprises. The aim is to foster collaboration and facilitate cross-border data flows among public, non-profit, and private sector entities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The funding available for selected projects is €1.5 million. Eligible projects should align with the goals of the initiative and preferably have relevance to one of the 13 African partner countries of the Belgian Development Cooperation: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.
This initiative presents an opportunity for organizations actively engaged in digital social innovation to contribute to the development of robust data governance frameworks, fostering collaboration and driving positive impacts across borders within the specified African partner countries.
