Following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of former Group Chief Executive Officer Herbert Wigwe, his wife Doreen, son Chizi, and former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group Abimbola Ogunbanjo, Access Holdings has appointed Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement released on Monday, February 12, 2024, the company’s Board of Directors announced Agbede’s appointment, pending approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria. The statement reads, “The Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) has today announced the appointment of Ms Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of the Company following the unfortunate demise of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Herbert Wigwe, on February 9, 2024. The appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
Agbede brings a wealth of experience in banking and business consultancy services to her new role. She commenced her professional journey at Guaranty Trust Bank in 1992 before assuming the position of Chief Executive Officer at JKG Limited, a business consulting firm, in 2003. Agbede joined Access Bank in 2003 as an Assistant General and has held various roles within the bank.
From 2010 to 2022, she served as Head of Group Human Resources before being appointed as the founding Executive Director of Business Support in 2022, a position she held until her recent appointment as the Managing Director.
Agbede holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos and obtained a Master’s of Business Administration Degree from Cranfield University in the UK in 2002.
