Orange Money Expands Digital Payment Access to Millions Across 7 African Countries

Orange Money customers can now enhance their digital payment experience with the option of virtual or physical debit cards directly linked to their Orange Money wallets. This development opens up greater financial flexibility, enabling both local and international transactions wherever Mastercard is accepted.

Easy Access to Virtual and Physical Cards

Customers can request a virtual debit card through Orange’s Super App, Max It, for convenient and immediate access to digital payments. Physical cards are also available and can be picked up at designated Orange Money Mastercard locations.

“This partnership aligns with Orange’s commitment to providing efficient and accessible payment solutions, supporting Africa’s digital transformation and advancing financial inclusion for our customers,” the company noted.

Enhanced Global and Online Payment Options

Aminata Kane, CEO of Orange Money Group for the Middle East and Africa, highlighted that this collaboration allows Orange Money users to pay with their Mastercard-linked wallet, even while traveling internationally, and opens the door to online shopping options.

Expanding Reach Amid Regional Challenges

With over 160 million customers and 37 million active Orange Money accounts in 17 African and Middle Eastern countries, Orange is making strides in financial innovation. However, some challenges persist. In Burkina Faso, nearly 15% of Orange’s telecom sites face accessibility issues due to regional conflicts, impacting service maintenance.

Meanwhile, Orange Egypt and two other entities recently signed agreements with the Egyptian government to launch the second phase of 5G licenses, furthering Orange’s commitment to technological expansion in Africa.
