Passion and Purpose
Embarking on the entrepreneurial journey, pursuing dreams on one’s own terms—there’s nothing more exhilarating. Yet, the path to building a thriving business is far from easy, particularly for females in Africa who encounter numerous challenges and barriers. Irene Ochem, the Founder and CEO of AWIEF, intimately understands these struggles, having grown up as an ambitious young girl in Nigeria.
Irene’s firsthand experiences shaped her determination to economically empower women and girls. Her career trajectory on the global stage taught her resilience and the value of never giving up. With a vision to become the leader she wished she had, Irene founded AWIEF in 2015. Her goal: to assist other women in achieving their aspirations. “If I can do it, they can do it!”
Transforming words into actions, Irene has built a robust platform for AWIEF, steering inclusive economic transformation for women and striving to close gender gaps in entrepreneurship across Africa.
