Italy has pledged €5 million to support Africa’s sustainable energy endeavors through the Special Fund of the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA). Italian Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Vannia Gava, emphasized the significance of Italy’s €5 million contribution to the Special Fund of the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), highlighting Africa as a region of paramount importance for Italy’s energy and climate strategies. Gava reiterated Italy’s enduring commitment to advancing sustainable energy initiatives in Africa, citing the longstanding collaboration with the African Development Bank since 2015.
The event, co-organized by Res4Africa Foundation (https://Res4Africa.org) and GSE, centered on “Gearing up Africa’s energy transition by conducive policy and legislative frameworks.” It underscored the pivotal role of private sector investments and technical assistance programs in expediting the sustainable transformation of Africa’s electricity sectors.
Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Department at the African Development Bank, commended Italy’s contribution as a powerful affirmation of its dedication to Africa’s equitable energy transition. He expressed gratitude for Italy’s ongoing partnership, emphasizing how the funding will enhance SEFA’s efforts to provide sustainable and reliable energy access across the continent, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for millions.
