MTN Group, a leading advocate for Africa’s digital advancement, has announced a bold $215 million investment in Benin’s infrastructure over the next three years, alongside the construction of a cutting-edge office for its subsidiary, MTN Benin.
The commitment was unveiled during a high-profile MTN Group leadership visit to Cotonou, where discussions with President Patrice Talon took place. The delegation included Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita, MTN Benin Chairman Amadou Raimi, Senior Vice President for Markets Ebenezer Asante, MTN Benin CEO Uche Ofodile, and MTN Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Nompilo Morafo.
MTN, operating in 19 markets and serving approximately 292 million subscribers, has initiated trials of its 5G services in West Africa, demonstrating promising outcomes. The substantial investment underscores the company’s commitment to exploring mutually beneficial opportunities with the host country.
Ralph Mupita, MTN Group CEO, affirmed, “MTN is dedicated to being a catalyst for positive change across our markets, offering Africans hope, dignity, and prospects. We appreciate the warm reception received in Benin, where we’ve trialed 5G services and identified avenues for further advancement.”

President Talon expressed appreciation to the MTN delegation for their steadfast commitment and anticipated fruitful collaborations ahead. The announcement coincides with MTN Benin’s forthcoming celebration of 25 years of operations, serving approximately eight million subscribers.
