Nigeria's Nollywood Records N3.5 Billion Box Office Revenue in 2024

Nollywood has achieved a major milestone, grossing over N3.5 billion year-to-date (YTD) at the Nigerian box office.

Surge in Revenue and Ticket Sales

According to data from the Nigerian box office, over 935,000 tickets have been sold, representing a 125% increase in revenue and a 46% rise in ticket sales compared to the same period last year.

The industry’s improved production quality and storytelling have been key drivers of its record-breaking performance. With films consistently earning over N100 million this year, Nollywood is on track for its most successful year ever.

Blockbuster Hits Driving Success

Standout movies such as Jagun Jagun, Queen Lateefah, Ajakaju, and Farmer’s Bride have grossed over N400 million each, showcasing Nollywood’s growing ability to deliver blockbusters.

Other titles like All’s Fair In Love (N136 million) and Lakatabu (over N200 million) further highlight the rising demand for top-tier productions. Meanwhile, Queen Lateefah continues to dominate, earning N336 million to date.

End-of-Year Momentum

As December approaches—a peak season for Nigerian cinemas—the industry is gearing up for an even bigger finish.

Last December saw massive hits like Battle on Buka Street and Ijakumo: Born Again Stripper. With cumulative 2024 revenues already exceeding N8 billion, Nollywood is projected to close the year with a record-breaking total of N11–N12 billion.

Anticipated holiday releases from celebrated filmmakers Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham are expected to boost revenues further.

A Bright Future for Nollywood

Nollywood’s historic performance this year underscores its potential for economic growth and cultural influence. As the industry continues to innovate, attract investment, and expand its audience base, the future looks promising for Africa’s largest film industry.
