Remoteli, a Ghana-based tech talent startup that facilitates connections between African tech talents and remote workplace services, has secured £250,000 ($314,824) in pre-seed funding to amplify operations and extend its reach across Africa.
The financing initiative was spearheaded by Jeremie Frimpong, a Ghanaian-Dutch professional footballer who serves as a right wing-back for Bundesliga club Bayern Leverkusen. Frimpong’s investment mirrors a growing trend of football luminaries endorsing tech startups. In 2023, French football players Aurelien Tchouameni, Jules Kounde, and Mike Maignan participated in a $3 million funding round for StarNews Mobile, an African mobile video network.
Samuel Brooksworth, the founder of Remoteli, disclosed to TechCabal that the genesis of the company stemmed from recognizing the gap between talented young graduates unable to secure employment and organizations grappling with business growth amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our collaboration with Jeremie Frimpong is primarily aimed at propelling Remoteli towards our ambitious objective of facilitating employment for 1 million individuals by 2030,” Brooksworth shared with TechCabal.
Part of the partnership with Frimpong involves the Pathways project, designed to address the plight of young footballers whose careers haven’t flourished. The Pathways project opens up new avenues, and with Remoteli’s backing in training and upskilling, these athletes can explore potential careers beyond the field.
Frimpong resonates with Brooksworth’s vision and is committed to enriching more lives. “I invested because I believe in what Remoteli is striving to achieve. I am deeply passionate about fostering development in areas where opportunities are scarce, as that is the background I hail from. When Samuel pitched the idea to me, I was immediately on board,” he expressed.
Remoteli emphasizes strategic focus on bootstrapping and minimal fundraising to optimize organic growth. The startup touts AI-powered software that matches organizations with proficient tech talent. Additionally, it is developing a suite of tools and resources to empower global companies by linking them with talented and ambitious African professionals. These resources encompass project management tools, seamless communication channels, time tracking, invoicing solutions, and customizable features tailored to each organization’s requirements.
The startup reports having directly hired over 100 individuals and supported more than 100 dedicated clients. Its recent expansion into Kigali, Rwanda, signals intentions to broaden operations to several other African countries in 2024. Remoteli eyes a Series A round later in the year.
