Pargo, a pioneering smart logistics enterprise founded in 2015 by Lars Veul and Derk Hoekert in Cape Town, has redefined e-commerce delivery solutions. The company has built a vast network of over 4,500 technology-driven Pargo Points, serving major firms like Amazon, Bash, and Jumia, and connecting them to over 10 million online consumers.
$4 Million Investment to Fuel Expansion
Recently, Pargo secured a significant US$4 million investment in a funding round led by 3Capital Ventures (formerly of Allan Gray), with contributions from Endeavor, SAAD Investment Holdings, and UW Ventures. This financial boost will enhance Pargo’s service offerings and expand its Pargo Point network across key regions.
Strategic Expansion into Egypt
One of the first uses of this new funding is Pargo’s expansion into Egypt, where it launched its Collect and Return services. The company has already established over 500 Pargo Points in partnership with local businesses like Fawry, Circle-K, and Basata stores. Noon, a leading Middle Eastern fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform, is one of the first major clients to utilize Pargo’s services in Egypt.
CEO’s Vision for Africa’s E-commerce Growth
Lars Veul, CEO of Pargo, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion into Egypt, describing it as one of Africa’s most dynamic e-commerce landscapes. He highlighted Pargo’s mission to offer cost-effective delivery solutions to Africa’s 500 million online shoppers—a demographic often hard to reach for e-commerce companies. Veul views this expansion as a major step towards building the most extensive smart logistics network in the region.
Success of Pilot Program in Egypt
Pargo’s journey into Egypt began with a successful pilot program in 2023, which established 150 Pargo Points. The pilot exceeded expectations, and Pargo introduced a “Cash on Collection” payment option, addressing the needs of Egypt’s largely cash-driven economy.
Future Plans: Expanding the Network
Looking ahead, Pargo has ambitious plans to grow its network to 7,000 Pargo Points by 2026. The company aims to continue forming partnerships with major local brands and enterprises to support this growth.
Pargo’s Commitment to the Egyptian Market
Abdelmalek Shamsi, Pargo’s managing director in Egypt, emphasized the company’s dedication to providing an unmatched shopping experience for Egyptian consumers. With partnerships like Noon and a strong pipeline of interested businesses, Shamsi is optimistic about Pargo’s ability to tap into the vast potential of Egypt’s e-commerce sector.
