Visa Backs Konnect and PayTic After Fintech Accelerator Success
Visa is strengthening its support for Africa’s growing fintech sector. The company has announced new investments in two promising startups: Konnect from Tunisia and PayTic from Morocco. This follows their successful participation in the Visa Africa Fintech Accelerator program.
A 12-Week Program for Fintech Growth
Both startups recently completed the 12-week accelerator program. It was designed to help early-stage fintechs grow through expert mentorship, networking, and access to funding.
Now, Konnect and PayTic have joined a growing list of African fintechs backed by Visa.
What the Startups Do
Konnect, based in Tunis, helps users send digital payment links via SMS, email, and messaging apps like WhatsApp. It aims to simplify how people send and receive money across Africa.
“Visa’s support validates our vision of secure, instant payments,” said Amin Ben Abderrahman, CEO of Konnect. “This partnership will help us reach more users across the continent.”
PayTic, headquartered in Morocco, focuses on automating back-office tasks for banks and fintech companies. It offers tools for better risk management and compliance.
“With Visa’s global reach, we can boost trust and efficiency in digital payments,” said Imad Boumahdi, CEO of PayTic.
Visa’s Growing Impact in Africa
These new investments are part of Visa’s broader push to drive innovation in digital finance across Africa.
Past accelerator participants include:
- Oze from Ghana
- Workpay from Kenya
- OkHi and ORDA from Nigeria
Each of these companies has since expanded their operations and raised additional funding.
Visa has also teamed up with Chari, a Moroccan B2B platform that helps small retail shops with digital payment tools. This partnership supports the digital transformation of informal businesses in North Africa.
Spotlight at GITEX Africa 2025
Visa made the announcement during GITEX Africa 2025 in Marrakech. As the event’s Financial Innovation Partner, Visa showcased 19 standout startups from the accelerator’s third cohort.
The cohort included innovators from 21 African countries. Notably, 85% of this year’s startups are led by women — a major highlight of the program.
Looking Ahead
The Visa Africa Fintech Accelerator, launched in 2023, is part of Visa’s pledge to invest $1 billion in Africa by 2027. The next group of startups in the program will be announced on June 2, 2025.
Visa’s continued support signals strong confidence in Africa’s fast-growing fintech ecosystem.
