TCL’s NXTPAPER 70 Pro wants to make your excessive screen-on time as pleasant as possible

    TL;DR

    • The NXTPAPER 70 Pro is TCL’s latest Android phone with an eye-friendly paper-like display.
    • Users can quickly switch between display modes through the NXTPAPER button, including a monochrome option.
    • Other hardware details include a 50MP main camera, Dimensity 7300 SoC, and up to 512GB storage.

Screens on modern phones have become so nice that it’s easy to take them for granted. But while we’ve got our pick of options with big, bright, high-refresh-rate panels, some manufacturers are trying a different approach. TCL has found success with its NXTPAPER tech, prioritizing eye comfort with matte-finish screens that offer a pleasant alternative to the shiny, glossy displays everyone else uses. And this week at CES 2026, the company is showing off its latest NXTPAPER-based phone.

Last year’s NXTPAPER 60 Ultra emerged as a surprise favorite for those of us who might otherwise carry around an e-reader, letting us enjoy books on its eye-friendly 7.2-inch NXTPAPER 4.0 screen while pulling double duty as a full-blown Android smartphone. And now TCL is following it up with the NXTPAPER 70 Pro.

Like the 60 Ultra, the 70 Pro uses NXTPAPER 4.0 for its display technology, bringing us more of that great-looking (and feeling) screen — now a 6.9-inch FHD+ 120Hz panel. In fact, while there is a new design debuting this year, the 70 Pro leans quite heavily on its 60 Ultra lineage, and if you’re just looking at the spec sheet, you’re going to find plenty of alignment between the two.

That includes the return of a 50MP main camera with 1.0μm pixels and optical stabilization — now featuring TCL’s MuseFilm engine to enhance its output. But not everything’s an upgrade, and instead of 60 Ultra’s MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chip running the show here, we get a 7300 instead. All that silicon is powered by a 5,200mAh battery.

TCL’s NXTPAPER button is back, giving you quick control over display settings. With a press, you can quickly switch between viewing modes, including a high-contrast monochrome option.

One of the stand-out features that caught our eye this generation is TCL’s anti-flicker tech. Besides making the screen look great to your eyes, TCL’s also ensuring that if you record the phone’s screen with another camera, you’ll get a smooth, flicker-free video.

Another feature sticking around is support for TCL’s T-Pen active stylus solution. While that doesn’t come with the 70 Pro by default, the phone’s ready for you to pick one up and get started with pen input. Even without one, though, there are plenty of other software tricks the 70 Pro is eager to show off, like its AI-powered translation engine that supports real-time conversations.

TCL plans to sell the NXTPAPER 70 Pro with 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage — priced at €339 (~$400) for the former and €389 (~$455) for the latter. Sales start next month across global markets, including North America.
