The prestigious Injini Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship has unveiled its second cohort, comprising twelve innovative South African startups poised to make waves in the education technology sector. These selected companies are set to receive financial assistance and a comprehensive suite of supportive services to amplify their impact.
Injini: Pioneering EdTech Accelerator
Injini, Africa’s premier ed-tech exclusive accelerator, founded in 2017 under the UVU Africa Group, spearheads this initiative. Driven by a non-profit ethos, Injini is dedicated to enhancing educational quality, accessibility, and relevance throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. The accelerator leverages its programs and the research endeavors of the Injini Think Tank to pursue this mission.
Partnership with Mastercard Foundation
Injini’s collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation birthed the EdTech Fellowship for South African startups. This initiative, initiated last year, equips participating startups with a comprehensive support package. This includes direct grants, product evaluations, workshops, mentorship, market research, and facilitated market access opportunities.
Tailored Support for Educational Innovation
After a rigorous selection process, twelve startups have been chosen for the fellowship’s second iteration. These ventures will receive customized support in educational innovation, fundraising, impact measurement, and commercial strategy. They will also benefit from specialized market research, expert collaborations, and networking opportunities.
Diverse Range of Startups
The selected startups represent a diverse range of educational solutions, from online reading tutoring platforms to digital entrepreneurial ecosystems. Others focus on ICT optimization for underprivileged schools, financial literacy games for children, professional development for teachers, and management support for early childhood development (ECD).
Commitment to Empowerment
Krista Davidson, Injini’s executive director, underscores the organization’s unwavering commitment alongside the Mastercard Foundation to empower these chosen fellows. Together, they strive to scale the startups‘ ventures, amplify their impact, and drive substantial progress within South Africa’s educational landscape amidst multifaceted challenges.
