PwC is proud to announce the appointment of Anastacia Tshesane as the new CEO for PwC South Africa, effective 1 July 2026.

Since July 2021, Anastacia had been the Chairman of the PwC South Africa Governing Board and the PwC Africa Governance Board. As she steps into the CEO role, she formally passes the baton as Chairman of both Boards, to Alsue du Preez. Alsue is currently the PwC Africa Insurance Leader and brings over 18 years of partner experience on large listed financial services clients. Her leadership and expertise will continue to strengthen our governance bodies.

Alongside this governance transition, Anastacia brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her career spans over 19 years at PwC, and as an Assurance Partner she has deep experience across Financial Services, Consumer Markets and Industrial Products and Services. Anastacia has led audits of large local and multinational companies with operations globally. Her leadership is grounded in quality, ethics, inclusion, and a steadfast commitment to our people and brand.

Commenting on Anastacia’s appointment, Dion Shango, PwC Africa CEO says, “Anastacia has been instrumental in the firm’s growth and contributing to strengthening the auditing profession. Her dedication to working alongside our leaders, clients and other stakeholders to ensure the success of our firm is testament to this. She is an inspirational leader in her own right and her experience with our clients, people, and culture has made PwC stronger. I am confident that she will effectively lead PwC Southern Africa to deliver to all our stakeholders”.

Anastacia will succeed Shirley Machaba, who has served as the South Africa CEO since 2019. Shirley will retire from the firm at the end of her term on 30 June 2026, concluding a 24-year career at PwC.

Shirley Machaba says, “It has been an incredible privilege to lead PwC South Africa since 2019. I am proud of the legacy we have built and the impact we’ve made while building trust in society and solving important problems. I am confident that Anastacia will continue to build on this foundation and take PwC to even greater heights.”

Looking ahead, Anastacia Tshesane says, “As we execute on the next era for PwC, delivering quality and trust will be of utmost importance to me as we sustain the success of our people and our clients.

“This new leadership position is an incredible opportunity to expand on the solid foundation Shirley has laid. It is an honour to serve as a successor to such an accomplished leader. I would also like to thank Dion for his continued support. Both Dion and Shirley have led our pursuit of generating momentum for our clients and our people and are great examples of what true leadership looks like.”
