PiggyVest has recently launched a revamped app along with exciting new features, including Kids Accounts, Joint Accounts, and PiggyVest Business. This move signals the fintech company’s intention to grow beyond its original focus on savings.
The company made the announcements during OpenHouse 2026, a vibrant community event held at the National Theatre in Lagos on September 26. At this annual gathering, PiggyVest showcased updates to its existing PocketApp and Investify platforms, while also giving attendees a sneak peek at the new offerings.
OpenHouse serves as an important platform for PiggyVest, bringing together users, founders, partners, and key players in the tech and business worlds. It’s a space where important conversations about money, work, and technology take place, all while sharing the latest product innovations with the audience.
This year’s event was especially significant, marking a decade since PiggyVest first launched as Piggybank.ng on January 7, 2016. Initially a savings-only platform, it spent its first three years dedicated to helping users save. In April 2019, the brand rebranded to PiggyVest, expanding its services to include investment options.

From ₦21 million in its first year to millions of users
PiggyVest has come a long way since its humble beginnings, making its early achievements seem almost unbelievable. In its first year, the company managed to gather about ₦21 million in savings. Co-founder Ayo Akinola shared that the initial version of their product was developed in under a month, showcasing the team’s swift determination.
This early success demonstrated that Nigerians were ready to invest in a digital savings platform. However, the larger hurdle was building trust with users who were cautious about entrusting their money to a new and relatively unknown company.
Since those early days, PiggyVest has focused on nurturing its relationship with users. The company started with basic savings options and has since expanded into investments and a variety of financial services, all designed around the unique financial habits of Nigerians.
Over the years, PiggyVest has gained international recognition. It earned a spot on CNBC and Statista’s list of the World’s Top Fintech Companies in 2026, marking the third consecutive year it appeared in the Wealth Technology category.

At the OpenHouse event, the conversation shifted from celebrating past achievements to discussing future aspirations. Joshua Chibueze, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of PiggyVest, noted that the company is now catering to a different type of Nigerian user compared to when it started ten years ago.
Today, many people are making money through online businesses, content creation, social media, WhatsApp sales, and other non-traditional work, stepping away from the classic 9-to-5 jobs. This shift means that their financial needs are evolving too.

With these changes in mind, PiggyVest aims to transform into “the financial operating system for the Nigerian household.” Chibueze explained that they want to offer products that address people’s varying financial stages and needs throughout their lives.
“People want to save. They just need the right environment to do it,” Odunayo Eweniyi, co-founder and COO, said while reflecting on the company’s early years.
The new products unveiled at OpenHouse were designed with this vision in mind, focusing on helping Nigerians navigate their financial journeys in a more personalised and supportive way.
PiggyVest adds products for families, businesses and everyday money
The fintech has launched several innovative products to help users manage their finances more effectively. One key feature is PiggyVest Kids, which allows parents to open accounts for their children directly from their existing profiles. This initiative supports multiple accounts and encourages good savings habits by letting parents set specific rules related to access and usage.
The company also introduced Joint Accounts for individuals, friends, family, or partners to save together, promoting collaborative financial management. For business owners, PiggyVest Business offers tools for tracking expenses and managing cash flow, enhancing financial oversight with features like SafeLock and Flex Naira. Accounts can be easily set up through the app or website.
Another new product, Smart Salary, will launch next week, enabling users to schedule when portions of their salary become available to spend. This feature addresses the common issue of rapidly depleting salaries by controlling access to funds.
Additionally, PiggyVest has redesigned its app for an improved user experience, making it smaller, faster, and easier to navigate. Users can now fund their PiggyBank accounts via direct bank transfers, and Group Target Savings has been simplified for easier collaboration.
PiggyVest is also expanding into the dollar market with its Flex Dollar feature, now funded via an account number. Future enhancements will include stablecoin options and seamless fund transfers between Flex Dollar accounts and the PocketApp.
“The PiggyVest of the past is very different from the PiggyVest of the future,” said Joshua Chibueze, co-founder and CMO of PiggyVest. With these developments, PiggyVest is committed to making saving and financial management more accessible and tailored to user needs, whether for children, joint ventures, businesses, or individual finances.

PocketApp gets a rebuild too
PocketApp has undergone a major redesign, with significant updates driven by its co-founder, Ayo Akinola. The team reassessed the app’s development and decided a complete overhaul was necessary.
The new PocketApp features a cleaner interface that makes it easy to check balances and perform key actions. Notable additions include Quick Send, which saves frequent payment details for convenience, and Scan to Pay, allowing users to scan account information before confirming transactions.
A helpful Split feature enables users to create payment links for shared expenses, even if not everyone has a Pocket account. Additionally, the app consolidates bills and utilities, helping users discover events and purchase tickets all in one place. Akinola aims to position Pocket as a comprehensive payment solution, introducing the Pocket ID for even simpler transactions.
To enhance support, users can now shake their phones to report issues, ensuring quicker feedback for resolutions.

These updates showcase a significant shift in PiggyVest’s aspirations. When it launched in 2016, the company focused on helping Nigerians save money by making it difficult to spend their savings. Now, as it enters its next decade, PiggyVest is broadening its scope to encompass a more comprehensive financial experience.

Concluding the event, co-founder and COO Odunayo Eweniyi articulated their ambitious goals: to assist users in accessing wealth, facilitate smoother transitions between saving and banking, offer protection against financial setbacks, and expand financial services beyond borders. This evolution is reflected in new features like Kids Accounts, Joint Accounts, Business tools, Smart Salary, and the redesign of PocketApp, all signs of what the future holds for PiggyVest.
