Virgin Atlantic: 10 Weekly Johannesburg–London FlightsVirgin Atlantic plans to increase its Johannesburg–London flights from seven to ten a week from mid-December 2026, alongside a return to daily Airbus A350-1000 operations from 25 October.

The changes coincide with the airline’s 30th anniversary of serving South Africa. The additional frequencies will provide more departure options during South Africa’s summer travel season and are scheduled to continue until late March 2027, according to clarification supplied by the airline’s media representative.

The A350-1000 has previously served Johannesburg. Its deployment this October therefore marks a seasonal return to daily operations on the route, rather than the aircraft’s first appearance.

    Additional Johannesburg–London flights

The daily flights, VS449 from London Heathrow to Johannesburg and VS450 in the opposite direction, will use the A350-1000. Three additional weekly services will operate with Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

Flight Route Planned start Operating days
VS461 London Heathrow–Johannesburg 13 December 2026 Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday
VS462 Johannesburg–London Heathrow 14 December 2026 Monday, Wednesday and Friday

The expansion will add three weekly departures in each direction. For business travellers, the practical change is a wider choice of travel dates between Johannesburg and London, alongside onward connections available through Heathrow.

The airline has not supplied an additional weekly passenger-seat figure for this announcement.

Thirty years of serving South Africa

Marking the anniversary, Marc Harding, Virgin Atlantic’s Country Manager for South Africa, highlighted the contribution of customers, employees and commercial partners to the route’s development over three decades.

The Johannesburg service supports both business and leisure travel between South Africa and the UK. Virgin Atlantic also offers connections through its own network and airline partnerships, with available itineraries depending on travel dates and connection times.

Travellers can check current schedules and availability through Virgin Atlantic’s website.
