Nigeria-based and Africa’s fastest-growing fintech, Moniepoint Inc., has risen to stardom over the past few years.

Founded in 2015 by Tosin Eniolorunda and Felix Ike (following their departure from Interswitch), Moniepoint has evolved from providing payment infrastructure to becoming one of Africa’s leading banking providers, processing over 1 billion transactions monthly, worth approximately $22 billion.

In October 2024, the company secured a $110 million Series C funding round, which elevated Moniepoint to unicorn status. Recently, the fintech company was ranked by the Financial Times as one of Africa’s fastest-growing companies for the third consecutive year, owing to its rapid growth.

As Moniepoint’s performance is built on both financial and human resources, its richly packed team is composed of hands with convincing track records. It also boasts individuals who were founders before their appointments at Moniepoint.

In this article, we list some of these employees.

Behind Moniepoint’s drive are highly resourced hands

    1. Bayo Olujobi – Chief Financial Officer

Former Stanbic Bank executive Bayo Olujobi was appointed Moniepoint’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in November 2024. He joined the startup from Stanbic IBTC Bank, where he served as the CFO of Stanbic IBTC Capital.

With over twenty years of experience in the financial sector, he has demonstrated expertise across the field.

Bayo’s strategic vision and leadership have been instrumental in driving financial performance and operational efficiency at both Stanbic IBTC and Asset, and Resource Management Company (ARM), where he previously worked.

Bayo Olujobi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the Lagos State University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Cranfield School of Management, UK. Bayo’s financial brilliance has also been acknowledged as the recipient of the Financial Services CFO of the Year (West Africa) and Most Innovative Financial Services CFO (Africa) awards.

    2. Nelson Nelson-Atuonwu – Director of Product

Appointed as Moniepoint’s Director of Product in December 2024, Nelson Nelson-Atuonwu joined the team from Grip, which he co-founded in 2021. He spearheaded the launch of the instant card-issuing product.

Under his leadership, Grip’s team achieved major milestones by winning first runner-up (N10 million prize) at Wema Bank’s Hackaholics 4.0 pitch competition.

Nelson focused on leading product strategy and architecting systems that create seamless and connected financial experiences for users. His contribution shaped the core banking infrastructure at Interswitch and channeled global product initiatives at Nomba.

Using similar experiences, he was appointed at Moniepoint to build its payments and banking services. Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Salem University.

    3. David Ijaola – Product Manager

David Ijaola co-founded Sandbox in July 2022, a platform that bridges the gap between top-tier product managers and talent seeking their next opportunity.

During his early days, David discovered the potential of technology to foster both lifestyle and economic growth. Today, he leverages technology to drive positive change and has co-founded businesses in research and investment, branding, media, and technology.

Before joining Moniepoint in September 2024 as Product Manager, David Ijaola served in the same role at Norbase, Fidia, and Nigenius between April 2023 and September 2024. He also served as Product Lead at Bonadocs, with his expertise spanning across economics and product development.

    4. Babatunde Olofin – Managing Director

While the context of ‘founder’ isn’t in the profile of Babatunde Olofin, his vast experience in the banking industry secured him a place on this list.

Appointed in October 2023, Babatunde is currently Moniepoint’s Managing Director, after previously serving as Executive Vice President, Business Banking & Card Products.

Babatunde Olofin boasts over 15 years of experience in the banking and fintech space. Between September 2004 and July 2021, he served in key positions across First Bank, FCMB, Oceanic Bank (now EcoBank), and Sterling Bank. With a strong software engineering background, Babatunde had excelled from the onset of his career to his present state at Moniepoint.

He holds a Master’s degree in Business Information Systems at Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa.

    5. Bukola Bankole – Product Manager, Business Loans

Before joining Moniepoint in October 2022 as a Product Management Intern, Bukola Bankole headed Laba Laba Media, a brand management firm she founded in December 2013. Bukola is experienced in product development and communication for user-centric solutions.

Having spent 8 years+ in marketing, she has contributed to the growth of various companies such as Code4TEEN, Raven Treat, and IRoko Partners Ltd.

At Moniepoint, she climbed the ranks from being an Intern to a Product Manager, all within 2 years. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the University of Lagos.

Moniepoint’s story reflects a team built on individuals that aligns with its drive for growth to position itself for more wins and recognitions.
