Blink, the Amazon-owned company known for its affordable smart home security cameras, just announced a big upgrade to its camera software. Do you ever wish your cameras were a bit more descriptive with alerts and notifications? If so, you’ll be happy to hear about these new features.
While I love my Blink cameras, especially after upgrading to the Sync Module XR for extended range beyond Wi-Fi, these affordable little cameras are still missing a few features that other big-name brands offer. And while the software improves with each new camera release, like the new 2K+ lineup, things could always be a little better. Owners have been asking for better motion descriptions for years, and they’re finally here.
Better Video Descriptions
This week, Blink announced that the company is rolling out new AI-powered video descriptions, in beta, for owners with a Blink subscription. Instead of receiving your usual “motion detected in the driveway” type alerts, Blink will generate highly detailed yet concise text descriptions of all motion activity.
Rather than just getting alerted to motion or a vehicle in your driveway, you’ll now start seeing alerts like the one above. Seeing “A person in a red shirt is riding a bike in front of a white house” is a far better description than simply knowing there’s motion outside. It’s the difference between dismissing an alert and immediately taking action to collect a package, prevent theft, or keep a closer eye on your home or property.
Blink explained that this will be information at a glance, and the AI-generated descriptions will appear directly in the notification on your phone. I’ll allow for real-time details about any situation. This will provide Blink Subscription Plus users with added peace of mind through short and concise information.

It sounds like these are going to be very brief yet informative alerts, as Blink aims to deliver only the most relevant information. The Blink video descriptions will focus on the main subject that caused the motion alert, any action being taken, and other pertinent details.
Notably, this feature is currently only available as a beta for users with a Subscription Plus plan, and once all the kinks are ironed out, it’ll likely roll out to more customers. We doubt it’ll be an option for the basic plan, but if you’re paying $11.99 per month for Plus, keep an eye out for the beta.
The video descriptions beta will roll out to Subscription Plus members in the US (except Illinois) on December 8th, 2025. Blink states that its new descriptions will be compatible with all existing doorbells, as well as indoor and outdoor cameras.
