Glovo, the global on-demand delivery platform, has appointed Reni Onafeko as its new Country Managing Director for Nigeria, replacing Lamide Akinola, who stepped down after more than three years in the role.
Onafeko, who has steered Glovo’s Nigerian operations since the beginning of 2026, will now lead its next phase and growth strategy, including expansion across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan, the company said in a statement.
Her appointment comes as Glovo continues to expand in Nigeria, which it says closed 2025 as its fastest-growing market globally. At its Future of Commerce summit in April, the company disclosed that it delivered 38 million items in the country over the past year.
“My experience across strategy, finance and growth has given me a strong understanding of our business and opportunities within the market,” Onafeko said. “I look forward to working with our teams, partners and wider ecosystem to build on what we have achieved and deliver sustainable growth in the years ahead.”
Akinola announced her departure in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday after more than five years with Glovo. She joined the company in 2021 as Head of Q-commerce for Sub-Saharan Africa, where she built its marketplace business for groceries, health and retail and launched and scaled dark stores across the region. She became General Manager of Glovo Nigeria in 2023.
“Building this business into an $80 million operation and Glovo’s fastest-growing market has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Akinola wrote in her post. “This chapter has deepened my conviction in the opportunity across Africa, and in the talent capable of turning that opportunity into extraordinary businesses.”
Onafeko joined Glovo in 2023 after an eight-year consulting career that included time at Boston Consulting Group in London, where she advised executives and investors on investment decisions and growth strategy. Since joining Glovo, Onafeko has held several leadership positions, including Head of Strategy & Finance and Head of Growth.
She now takes charge of the business that Glovo says has invested more than ₦37 billion ($27 million) since entering Nigeria. The company said it also doubled its network of partner restaurants and shops, as well as the economic value delivered to those businesses, in 2025.
